…And a Book Club was Born

0

An architect, an Africanist and a Jew walk into a room… They sit with two other Enugu young’uns, sip pineapple zobo and discuss literature. This is the first meeting of a promising Enugu book club.

The yet-to-be-named book club is a gathering of people who have an interest in reading and readers- the once voracious reader looking to get her groove back, the writer who wants to know what people are reading, the reader who wants to share his favourite books with others, or the culture lover looking to travel through time.

The meeting was a pleasant one. The participants discussed their favourite authors and books and their expectations. They read and discussed Shel Silverstein’s poem ‘Where the Sidewalk Ends’. It was agreed that the club would read four classes of books- contemporary, classic, African and self-help. They also agreed that it would be ideal to hold meetings two Sundays per month, at 3pm.

The next meeting will be held on 3rd April, 2016. Participants will be expected to read Sidney Sheldon’s “Are You Afraid of the Dark” before the meeting. If you are interested in participating, contact us for the venue and the book.
