Why Enugu? Regarded as the capital of Eastern Nigeria, it is known for its rich cultural heritage and is a place of peace and tourism. As far back as the 18th century, the people of Enugu often engaged in traditional wrestling known as “mgba” for entertainment and to showcase prowess amongst the youths.
Today it is coming back as a road to love, peace and unity. Secondarily, wrestling as a sport gives room for the youths to attain fame. In the words of Ike Ekweremmadu and Yakubu Gowon who are the vanguards “We believe that if we are able to develop sports, we would be able to create jobs to ensure that some people who do not have formal education and those who do not have the opportunity of achieving much in education can also gain prominence just as their counterparts in Europe, America and the rest of the world.”
“You do not need a university degree to be a good sports person… what you need is good skill and a conducive environment.”
